The School of Agriculture and Enterprise Development (SAED) held its 4th Msc. Graduands Seminar on Tuesday 17th June, 2014. In line with this year’s theme “Research for Development”, the School graduands made high quality presentations to the panel that consisted of staff and students from the school. While introducing the guest speaker on behalf of the Dean, SAED Dr. Mukiri wa Githendu noted that the school was proud to be graduating its first PhD graduate a major milestone in the life of the young school.
She said that the school was now attracting students from around the region and was competing favorably with other agricultural based universities Guest Speaker This year’s guest speaker was Prof. John Sumelius, a professor in Agricultural Economics at the Department o of Economics and Management, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Helsinki, Finland. In his keynote speech titled “Responsible Investments as a Mediator to Food Security”he challenged the graduands and students to get into further research in their areas of interest so that they can be part of actualization of their recommendations and therefore contribute to national development He further stated that there is a lot of satisfaction and opportunities in research on food security. The session had a lively question and answer session that was a high point of the seminar with the graduands elaborating and defending their various findings and positions.
