BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (ANIMAL HEALTH AND PRODUCTION)

Entry Requirements

An applicant will qualify for admission into the Bachelor of Animal Health and Production Programme if they have met any of the following requirements:
i. A minimum of grade C+ in KCSE with at least C+ in Biology or Biological Sciencesand any one of the following subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Physical Sciences.
ii. Two principals and one Subsidiary pass at KACE level or equivalent, one of which must be in biology and in any other science subject
iii. A minimum of C plain in KCSE and at least Credit in Diploma in Animal Health/ Agriculture/ Medical Laboratory Technology /Animal production/ Range management from an institution recognized by the University Senate
iv. A minimum of C- in KCSE with at least a Credit in both Certificate and Diploma Animal Health/ Agriculture/ Medical Laboratory Technology, Animal production/ Range management from an institution recognized by University Senate
v. A degree in a Biological Science from institutions recognized by the University Senate
vi. Any other qualifications equivalent to the above from an institution recognized by the University Senate

 

Examinations
(i) The University examination regulations shall apply.
(ii) The final written examinations of all other units will constitute 70% of the total marks while the continuous assessment tests (CATS), practicals and assignments will constitute 30% of the total marks
(iii) Field attachment: The field evaluation reports by supervisorswill constitute 30 % of the marks. A full report at the end of attachment which will constitute 70 % of the marks.
(iv) Research project will constitute 2 credit points.Thestudent will be required prepare a project a research proposal, implement the proposaland prepare a projectreport.
(v) All units shall be graded out of total of 100 marks and the pass mark shall be 50 %, except University Common Units (UCUs). The pass mark for UCUs will be 40%.
(vi) A candidate who fail less than 50 % of units examined in a semester shall be recommended to do a supplementary examination on the failed units, except KCU300 (Field Attachment) and Research Project (KCU400). Retake will be recommended for failed KCU300 (Field Attachment) and Research Project (KCU400).
(vii) A candidate who fails more than 50 % but not all units examined in a semester shall be issued with an academic warning and do supplementary examinations on the failed units.
(viii) A candidate who failsa supplementary examination will be recommended to retake the unit in accordance with the university regulations.
(ix) A candidate who fails all units registered in a semester shall be recommended to be discontinued.
(x) The transcript shall contain information on the performance of the student as follows:
(xi) Distinction (70% and above), Credit (60-69%), Pass (50-59%) and Fail (49 % and below). Common units will be graded according to the common university regulations.

Certification
The degree awarded will be Bachelor of Science in Animal Health and Production. The degree will not be classified.
