Rationale of the Programme
Environment is a dynamic entity but often perturbed by human activities. The need to monitor environmental perturbations and understand role of society in environment and sustainable development necessitates periodic revision of Bachelor of Science (Environmental Education and Sustainability) program. This is in realization that highly trained manpower is critical in the implementation of Agenda 21, The Sustainable Development Goals, The Constitution (2010), provisions Environmental Management and Coordination Act (1999) – amended (2015), and other sectoral Acts capturing aspects of environmental sciences.
Objectives
Students are expected to acquire knowledge, values, attitudes, commitment, and skills needed to protect and improve the environment requisite in the creation of patterns of behavior among individuals, groups, and society as a whole towards the environment and sustainable development. By the end of the programme it is expected that the graduates will:
- Be equipped with knowledge to understand and appreciate the interrelatedness between the ecological, social, political and economic dimensions of the environment, its allied problems and sustainable actions needed for environmental sustainability
- Have Developed skills and values necessary to make decisions that promote environmental quality and sustainability
- Have developed skills and attitudes required to participate in environmental decision making for sustainability
- Prepare and facilitate learning though programmes that will give individuals opportunities to acquire knowledge, skills and values needed to protect the environment for sustainability
- Readily undertake research and disseminate results through workshops, seminars and other fora in response to emerging environmental challenges
- Be able to develop environmental education programmes for diverse learners, implement the programmes using diverse learning methodologies and evaluate the programme
Mode of Delivery of the Programme
The course is offered through blended learning.
Admission Requirements
- (a) In addition to satisfying the University entry requirements, for admission into the Bachelor of Environmental Education and Sustainability degree programme, candidates must have attained at least C+ in KCSE or its equivalent in any three of the following: Mathematics, English, Biology, Geography, Chemistry, Physics and Agriculture, history and Government, and Religious studies
- To gain admission into the Programme diploma holders: -
- Must have passed KCSE or its equivalent with a minimum of C mean grade or Division 3.
- Must have successfully completed a two-year diploma course from a recognized institution and attained a minimum credit grade in Environmental Studies, Journalism, Education, Public Health and any relevant field.
- Mean grade of C- (Minus) at KCSE and progressed from certificate to Diploma from a recognized/accredited institution

Full Time; Fees ksh.244,800; Digital ksh.244,800, Non East Africans ksh.306,000 p.a

Our graduates find employment in a wide range of organisations in both the private, NGO and public sectors. Career paths for Environmental Education & sustainability include but not limited to the following: i) Environmental education coordinator, ii) Environmental educator, iii) Park educator/park interpreter/naturalist, iv) Outdoor education instructor, v) Faith based and Community organizations as a Sustainability educator to promote sustainable practices and raising awareness about environmental issues, vi) Environmental curriculum developer, vi) Environmental researcher, vii) Environmental policy analyst and viii) Environmental consultant. Majority of our graduates are certified and licensed EIA Lead Experts with the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), and many others have made successful careers as local and global consultants in environmental education and other related disciplines.
